We’re the retail store movers Surrey shop owners call when the store has to close at night and trade again in the morning. We tear the old unit down after your last customer leaves and stand your fixtures up in the new space before opening hour. Trusted by IKEA, Cozey and Samsung. 5.0 stars from 395 Google reviews. Honest hourly estimate. No obligation.
Surrey retail runs in three formats, and every one of them moves differently. There’s the enclosed centre, where your unit sits behind a shared dock and a booked freight elevator window. Guildford Town Centre has been that since November 8 1966, and after the expansion wrapped on August 28 2013 it covers roughly 1.2 million square feet with 250 plus stores, the largest enclosed centre in the city. Central City at 10153 King George Boulevard is the other pattern, about 617,500 square feet and 132 retail units under an SFU campus podium beside the Surrey Central SkyTrain platform.
Then there’s the strip plaza and the street-front shop, where the job is backing to a rear door, protecting a shared sidewalk and staying clear of your neighbour’s parking. We’ve worked all three for 6 years out of 8567 164 St in Surrey, own crews only, no subcontractors on the truck.
Here’s what your store move actually takes, start to finish.

A shop move isn’t a big house move with better lighting. It’s a teardown, a load and a rebuild, run backwards from the hour your doors have to open. We walk both units, count the fixtures bay by bay, photograph the runs as they stand, and mark where each piece lands on the new floor plan. Then we build the schedule around your posted hours, not ours.
Teardown happens after close: fixtures come apart in order, hardware goes into a bag taped to the piece it came off, glass comes out of anything that lets glass come out. We pack the box in reverse of the unload, so fixtures come off first at the new unit and stock comes off last. Fixtures go up, stock goes to its bay, merchandising happens last on a clear floor. You get the hourly breakdown before any of it starts.
Store relocations sit alongside the household and commercial work our Surrey moving and storage team runs every week, so the crew walking into your unit has done this sequence before.

Retail Units Moving is one of our core commercial jobs. Here’s what sits inside it.
Gondola runs come down bay by bay, in order, never all at once into a pile on the floor. Uprights and base decks get banded into matching sets so a 4 foot bay doesn’t get rebuilt with a 3 foot deck. Slatwall and pegboard panels come off faced together with corner protectors on every edge, because a chipped slat shows from across a sales floor. Stockroom racking breaks to beams and uprights, counted and banded per run, hardware bagged and taped to the run it belongs to. Every bag gets written with the bay it came from, so the rebuild is a build, not a puzzle. It all rides out on four-wheel dollies and panel carts.
Glass showcases, mirrored towers, jewellery cases, mannequins, cash wraps and POS counters are what owners lose sleep over, so here’s the method. Glass comes out of any case that lets it lift out, then rides crated or blanketed with corner protection on every edge. Where the glass is fixed in the frame, the unit gets blankets, shrink wrap over the blankets and corner protection, then straps upright to the E-track in the truck box rather than stacking. Mannequins break at the joints, and the limbs go in a bag numbered to their own torso so nobody spends opening morning matching arms. Lit displays lose their bulbs and glass shelves before the case moves at all.
Your stock is your revenue, so it moves like revenue and not like clutter. Hanging garments go straight onto wardrobe boxes, off one rail and back onto the next without a single fold. Boxed stock gets labelled by department and by destination bay, not just “stock”, because a box marked “stock” is a box somebody opens twice. High-value and fragile product is packed separately and kept together, checked in one place instead of hunted across a truck. And the load order is the unload order every time. Fixtures land first, stock comes off last, and your team shelves into standing bays instead of stepping around cartons.
Every hour your doors are shut is an hour with no sales in it, so overnight and weekend work is our default setting on retail, not a favour. Close at 9, crew in the door after your last staff member walks out, teardown and load overnight, fixtures standing at the new unit by morning. We work whatever window the building gives us: dock times, the freight elevator booking, the security escort, the common-area protection rules, all settled before the first dolly rolls.
That’s the part Guildford store owners feel most, because a unit inside a 250 plus store enclosed centre moves on the property manager’s clock, not yours. The same playbook covers plaza and street-front shops on the arterials. Working nights doesn’t change the bill, either. Same time-based rate on the actual hours worked, no after-hours line item at the bottom of the invoice.
We schedule off your posted hours and treat the reopen hour as the deadline the whole job answers to. If your fixture count is too big for one night, we phase it, so part of the floor keeps selling while the rest moves. A staged opening beats a dark store every time, and that plan gets written before we quote it.
IKEA, Cozey and Samsung are real accounts, not logos we borrowed for a website. Those are flat-pack furniture, ready-to-assemble goods and boxed electronics, which is the same discipline a store move lives on: bag the hardware, label the parts, protect the faces, keep sets together. The habits we built on that work are exactly what your gondola runs and showcases need.
The people who show up work for Local Movers Ltd. Not a broker, not a day crew someone else hired for the night. That matters most on a retail job, because the hands that took your slatwall down are the hands putting it back up 6 hours later, and they remember how it came apart. A named lead runs the site and answers your calls. Six years of this, 395 Google reviews at 5.0.
Managed buildings add paperwork before they add access, and we carry that end. Certificate of insurance to your property manager, dock window booked, freight elevator time confirmed, security escort arranged where the building wants one. Masonite goes down on finished floors and corridors, corner guards go on the doorframes, and common areas get handed back the way we found them. In a strip plaza it’s simpler: truck placed so your neighbours can still open, sidewalk clear, rear door protected.
Fixtures counted bay by bay, runs photographed as they stand, and every piece marked to where it lands on the new floor plan.
Time-based rate, crew size, estimated hours and the night-by-night schedule, all before the date is locked.
Fixtures come apart in order, hardware bagged and taped to its own bay, glass out, then loaded in reverse of the unload.
Fixtures go up, stock goes to its bay, merchandising happens last on a clear floor. You pay for the hours worked.
One pricing story, and it’s the same one on every job. Retail moves are time-based. You pay for the hours the crew actually works, in 30-minute increments once the minimum is covered. That hourly rate carries the crew, the truck and the gear: four-wheel and appliance dollies, panel carts, blankets, shrink wrap, corner protectors, banding, ratchet straps and floor protection.
What moves the number shows up on the walkthrough: fixture count, how much of it is glass, dock access versus a 200 foot carry across a lot, stairs, and how much stock your staff packs before we arrive. You get that breakdown in writing before the date is locked, crew size and estimated hours on it. And here’s the one thing we won’t do. We won’t quote you one locked number now and chase the difference later.
Below are nine tips from years of Surrey store moves. Steal all nine. They’re what separates a shop that trades the next morning from one that loses a week.
Walk the floor and count gondola bays, wall runs, showcases and racking sections. That number is what any honest mover quotes hours against, and it takes 20 minutes.
Ask property management for the certificate of insurance wording the week you sign. Buildings won’t confirm a dock or elevator window without it on file.
Those calendars belong to different people, and the building’s fills first. Lock both before you promise staff a reopen date.
Shoot each gondola bay and wall build straight on, plus a wide shot of the floor. The rebuild then works off photos instead of memory.
Bolts, brackets, pegs and shelf clips go in one bag per bay, taped to that bay. Mixed hardware is the slowest thing that happens on rebuild night.
Every carton you clear is a carton nobody boxes, loads and shelves twice. A clearance push before move week pays for itself in hours.
“Bay 7, size run” gets shelved. “Stock” gets opened, sorted, then opened again.
Shelves, sliders and loose tops lift out in minutes and travel far safer separated. The case gets lighter and the glass stops being the risk.
Pick the hour you want to be selling, then work back through merchandising, stocking, fixture build and unload. If it doesn’t fit one night, phase it on purpose instead of finding out at 4am.

Excellent experience with Local Movers Ltd (July 6th, 2026). The team was professional, efficient, and very careful with my items. Highly recommend!

Yes, and on retail that’s how we prefer to run it. The crew starts after your posted closing time, tears down and loads overnight, then sets fixtures at the new unit before your opening hour. If the fixture count is too big for one night we say so up front and phase it, rather than gamble on your opening.
Yes, both ends of the move. Gondola runs, slatwall, pegboard, racking and POS counters come down bay by bay, hardware bagged and labelled to the bay it came off, then get rebuilt to your floor plan against the photos taken before teardown. What we won’t touch is anything needing a licensed trade or a manufacturer’s installer, so electrical hookups, plumbed units and cases wired into the building alarm stay with the people certified for them.
Yes, and it goes over before move day, not on it. Send us your property manager’s contact when you book and we deal with them directly. Ask the building for its exact wording early, because dock windows and elevator bookings usually aren’t confirmed until the certificate is on file.
Time-based, on the hours the crew actually works, in 30-minute increments after the minimum. The rate covers crew, truck and all the equipment, so dollies, blankets, wrap, straps and floor protection aren’t extras. Before the date is locked you get a written breakdown: the rate, the crew size, the estimated hours and what would move them. You’ll never get one locked number from us that quietly grows on move day.
Call the week you sign the new lease if you can. Our truck and crew availability is rarely the bottleneck, the building is: dock bookings, elevator windows and after-hours security in managed centres get spoken for well ahead, and month-end and weekend nights go first. If your possession date just jumped on you, call anyway at (778) 242-2877 and we’ll tell you straight what’s open.
It gets packed to land ready, not just to travel. Hanging goods go on wardrobe boxes, boxed stock gets labelled by department and destination bay, and high-value or fragile product is packed separately and kept together. Everything loads in reverse of the unload, so fixtures come off first and stock comes off last.
Glass comes out of every case that lets it lift out, then travels crated or blanketed with corner protection on all edges. Fixed glass stays in the frame under blankets and shrink wrap, strapped upright to the E-track in the truck box rather than stacked or laid flat. Signage travels separately, faced and protected, never packed under a fixture.
Tell us your closing hour, your possession date and roughly how many fixture bays you’re running. We’ll walk both units, count what’s there, and hand you a time-based breakdown with crew size and a night-by-night schedule before you commit to anything. One crew from teardown to rebuild, a named lead on site, 6 years of Surrey store moves behind them. Call (778) 242-2877 and we’ll build it around your reopen hour.
You lock the old door at night. You open the new one on time. That’s the whole job.
