We’re the long distance piano movers Surrey calls when a piano has to go further than across town. Uprights and grands, anywhere in BC and across Canada, wrapped, crated and handled by our own crew door to door.
Honest hourly estimate. No obligation.
A piano is the one thing in the house you can’t load last and hope for. It’s heavy, the weight sits high and uneven, and the finish marks if you look at it wrong. Now add a few hundred kilometres of highway. A long distance piano move is really two careful moves with a long drive in the middle, and every stage gets planned before the first lift.
Local Movers Ltd has moved Surrey pianos for over 6 years with our own trained crews. No subcontractors, no freight handoff at a depot. The same people behind our piano moving service in Surrey handle the long runs too, and they’re the crew IKEA, Cozey and Samsung trust with their biggest deliveries across the Lower Mainland.
We take uprights and grands from Surrey to the Okanagan, Vancouver Island, the Kootenays and right across Canada. Pricing is time-based, billed on the actual hours worked including the drive, and broken down for you up front. You’ll know the rate, the crew size and the travel time before the piano leaves the room.

Most uprights weigh in between 300 and 500 pounds, and a vintage full-size can be heavier still. For a long run it rides strapped upright on a piano dolly, blanket-wrapped with stretch wrap over top so road dust and rubbing never reach the finish. It’s tied to the truck wall for the whole drive, and nothing gets loaded against it.
A grand doesn’t travel assembled. We take off the legs and the pedal lyre, tip the body onto a padded skid board, then wrap it, crate it for the long haul and strap it into its own protected spot in the truck. At the destination we rebuild it, level it and set it exactly where you want it.
Long distance means more than a long drive. We measure doorways and stairs at both addresses, book elevators where they exist, and plan the highway route around the season. A February run over the Coquihalla gets planned differently than a July ferry crossing to the Island. The plan is set before moving day.
You pay for the actual hours the move takes, drive included, broken down before we start. Never a flat-rate guess.
No depot transfers, no partner carriers. The movers who load your piano in Surrey unload it at the other end.
370+ Surrey customers rate us five stars, and pianos are some of our proudest work.
IKEA, Cozey and Samsung use our crews for their largest deliveries. Your piano gets the same hands.
Tell us the piano, both addresses and your dates. You get an honest time-based estimate up front.
Doorways, stairs and elevators measured at both ends, the route and the load plan set before moving day.
Wrapped, boarded and strapped to the truck wall. The piano rides protected for every kilometre.
We reassemble, place and level the piano in the new room. You check the time sheet, that’s the bill.
Real five-star reviews from our Surrey customers, straight from Google. Plenty of them started with a piano.
We had great service from the guys moving our household to two different storage units. They took very good care to make sure the correct items went to the right place. They were very respectful, friendly, efficient, and capable. We were very pleased how they wrapped and packed our items. I would definitely recommend using them.

Every call about long distance piano movers in Surrey starts with the same question. What’s this going to cost? Our answer is one honest story. Pricing is time-based, billed on the actual hours the job takes, including the drive. A minimum charge gets the truck and crew to your door, then time is tracked in half-hour blocks. If the crew finishes early, the bill shrinks with it.
You see how the number is built before you book. Rate, crew size, drive time and any crating the piano needs, itemized in plain figures first. IKEA and Cozey get their delivery quotes built the same way, and so do you. Four things move the number most.
A run to Langley and a run to Kelowna are different days. Drive time is on the clock, so distance is the biggest single factor. We map it and price it before you commit.
A 350-pound upright is a different job than a 900-pound grand that needs disassembly, boarding and reassembly. Weight and type set the crew size and the prep hours.
Ground floor to ground floor is the fastest job we do. Stairs, tight halls or a tower elevator at either address add crew time, so tell us about both ends when you call.
Blanket wrapping, skid boards, crating for the long haul and the grand rebuild at the destination all sit inside the hourly rate. There’s no separate fee list waiting at the end.
That’s the whole story. Actual hours, half-hour blocks after the minimum, the full breakdown in your hands first. Call (778) 242-2877 with the piano type, both addresses and your dates, and you’ll have a real number in minutes.
Over 6 years of Surrey pianos taught us what makes a long run go clean. These 10 things save you time on a time-based bill and protect the instrument on the road.
Uprights sit in the 300 to 500 pound range. Baby grands start around 500, and a concert grand can clear 1,000. Tell us exactly what you own so we bring the right crew and gear for the long haul.
One of the piano, one of the exit path, one of the entrance at the new place. With those three shots we quote the crew and the hours right on the first call.
Everyone measures the door the piano leaves through. The stair turn at the new house is what catches people. Get widths at both addresses before you call.
Stratas usually want 24 to 72 hours notice for a service elevator hold, and some ask for a deposit. Lock in both buildings early so the crew is never standing around on your dime.
Box up the sheet music, the lamp, the metronome and the framed photos before we arrive. We wrap the bench on its own so it never rides on the piano.
Walk around it and shoot every side in good light. You’ll have a clear condition record from before the drive, and so will we.
Quilted blankets, stretch wrap, straps and a skid board keep the piano controlled. Tape never touches the finish, and a self-wrapped piano usually has to be redone.
A long carry adds real minutes to a time-based bill, at each end. Claim the closest spot you can for the truck, in Surrey and at the destination.
Pianos live longest on an interior wall, clear of heat vents and direct sunlight. Decide before delivery day so it’s placed once, not shuffled around.
The piano needs time to settle into the new room’s humidity before a tuning holds. Book the tuner for week 3 or 4, not delivery day.
Here’s how a typical run goes. An upright leaves a townhouse in Clayton Heights headed for Kelowna. We wrap and strap it in the morning, walk it out on a piano dolly over floor protection, and tie it to the truck wall before anything else is loaded. Then it’s Highway 1 to Hope and up the Coquihalla, with the piano checked at the stop, not just trusted. It’s carried in, unwrapped and placed the same day.
Island runs work the same way with a ferry in the middle. A grand out of a White Rock home headed to Victoria gets boarded and crated in the living room, rides secured through the Tsawwassen crossing, and is rebuilt and levelled at the destination. The piano is never transferred, never warehoused and never handed to another company along the way.
Cross-Canada moves take more days and more planning, and the method doesn’t change. One crew, one truck, one plan, with the cost broken down on actual hours before you say yes. That’s what long distance piano movers in Surrey should look like, and it’s how we’ve done it for over 6 years.

Yes. Long distance piano moving is a core service for us. We take uprights and grands from Surrey to the Okanagan, Vancouver Island, the Interior and everywhere between. One crew handles the piano from your door to the new one.
We can. Cross-Canada piano moves take more planning than a BC run, so call us early with both addresses. We map the route, prep the piano for the long haul, and give you the full cost breakdown before anything is booked.
Pricing is time-based, billed on the actual hours the job takes, including the drive. You get the rate, the crew size and the travel time broken down up front, so the bill matches the estimate. We never quote a flat rate we’d have to pad.
Quilted moving blankets over every surface, stretch wrap over the blankets, and straps that tie the piano to the truck wall so it can’t shift. Grands travel on a padded skid board. Nothing gets stacked on a piano in our truck, ever.
Yes. An upright rides strapped upright on a piano dolly. A grand comes apart first, legs and pedal lyre off, body wrapped on its side on a skid board. We reassemble the grand at the destination and set it where you want it.
It can. On a full household move out of Surrey, we load the piano so it’s protected by position, not just padding. If you only need the piano moved, we do piano-only long distance runs too.
Our own crew, door to door. We don’t hand your piano to a subcontractor or a partner carrier partway. The same trained movers trusted by IKEA, Cozey and Samsung load it in Surrey and unload it at the destination.
A week or two of notice works for most BC runs. Cross-province moves need more lead time. Call (778) 242-2877 with your dates and we’ll tell you honestly what’s open.
Wait 2 to 4 weeks. A piano needs time to adjust to the humidity and temperature of the new room before a tuner can do accurate work. Set it on an interior wall, clear of heat vents and direct sunlight, and give it that window first.
